The Respiratory and Circulatory system continually supply our human tissues and cells with oxygen. The Respiratory System includes our lungs and the airway, the passage from the mouth and nose to the lungs. The Circulatory System includes the heart and and a wide network of blood vessels throughout the body. If there is a lack of oxygen, our brain can be severely affected causing damage to the brain cells and even death in a matter of minutes. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the loss of the heart's ability to pump blood to the body and can happen without notice. Patients become unresponsive and collapse. The victim can stop breathing all together or have unusual shallow gasps that may appear that the victim is breathing but he/she is not.
Learning how to recognize the need for assistance is key. Activate the Emergency Medical Services system (EMS). Begin high quality chest compressions. Apply electric shock to the heart. EMS arrive providing care and transportation to a medical facility. Post cardiac arrest care is provided at the hospital. This is called the Chain of Survival that is used to describe the best approach for treating sudden cardiac arrest. Temp Care Agency's Accredited Trainers can help you learn how to save a life!
